Why did I choose for SubscribeStar only and not for a Patreon account? The reason is simple. Patreon hates 3D adult games, and they will shy away from fetishes, altogether. Sure, plenty of adult game developers use Patreon with success. However, most of them a have 2D “unrealistic” art style. Are there 3D adult game developers on Patreon? Sure! But the past has shown us that they might (will) get axed at some point. If I started a Patreon page it could last days, weeks, months. But! That sword of an arbitrary mod coming around and pulling the plug would always hover over that page.
There is no guarantee that this will never, ever, happen with SubscribeStar, either. But for now, SubscribeStar has a proven trackrecord of being much friendlier towards adult content than Patreon is or ever was. Although Patreon is still more popular, even for people seeking to support their favourite adult game creator, I’ve chosen SubscribeStar for the reason stated above. The popularity of Patreon as a platform is a non-argument if that platform hates you for your content.
I believe that choosing to forego Patreon is the better decision in the long run. For you, and for me, as it is far more likely that my SubscribeStar page will remain online.
